About Me

My name is Asa Carvajal, and I’m a journalist and photographer in my junior year at the University of Central Florida. I currently report for The Charge, UCF’s digital student newspaper, where I cover stories that highlight the voices and experiences of my community. I’m also an active member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, where I have had the pleasure of sharpening my skills in the field.

Outside the newsroom, my passions for cooking and music have shaped my journalistic passions. My love for food has fueled an interest in food writing, while my experience as a musician inspired me to pursue concert photography. I strive to inform, engage, and capture moments that resonate with people and their communities, no matter the medium.

“You need a certain amount of nerve to be a writer.”
